Who We Are
We are an independent evangelical free Christian Church within the Congregational Federation in Tollesbury, Essex. We are made up of people from all walks of life. We believe Jesus is the son of God and that the Bible speaks to us with a message of hope for everyone whatever our circumstances. Such hope is clearly needed as we live in uncertain times. We are committed to following Jesus. The Bible is the word of God and God's word transforms our lives. Our aim is to share God's word. We have three aims; 1) Outreach sharing God's word, 2) To build each other up in fellowship, 3) Equip each other as Christians and to serve Jesus faithfully and to encourage and enable each of us to share in his work.
Outreach: Using Christianity Explored Course and other outreach projects.
World Wide Mission Explored: G.L.I.A. (God's love in action). For more information about the missionary work we support, please go to the "God's Love in Action" page. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR UPCOMING INFORMATION!
Our History: Our beliefs and origins go back to the "Reformation in England" and in the 1500's the emergence of an independent Church from the Anglican Church. Our origin in Tollesbury was first mooted in 1802 and the land purchased to build a Church, first in a cottage then subsequently in 1803 the first church was built. The present building with a ministers house was erected in 1865.
The Congregational Federation. In 1972, the Congregational Federation of England and Wales joined together with the English Presbyterian and became the United Reform Church, (URC). In 1983 our Church rejoined the Congregational Federation.
The Centre. The Church building, since 2007 was opened up to the wider community of Tollesbury. The Church is truly at the centre of the village and It's activities. The Centre is also now a Gigaclear Community Hub providing free internet to those in the building.
The basis of Leadership. Our Congregation is autonomous in running It's own affairs under the member's of the congregation with elected Deacons and leaders, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God.
